In May 2010, the U.S. Department of Energy's Geothermal Technologies Office (GTO) (formerly Geothermal Technologies Program) held their Annual Peer Review Meeting in Crystal City, Virginia.

Principal Investigators representing 198 projects and over $500 million in DOE funding came together to disseminate information, progress and results.

Thirty-five projects in six geothermal research and development areas underwent a full review consisting of an evaluation of their progress and management. Other, recently initiated projects presented an overview but did not undergo a full review. Overall, the 198 projects discussed in the Peer Review make up the broadest GTO technology portfolio since the 1970s.
