The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is required by law to establish and periodically update mandatory federal energy efficiency requirements. DOE's Federal Energy Management Program (FEMP) issues notices and rules related to federal energy management, which include new federal commercial and residential buildings, federal procurement of energy-efficient products, and federal fleet management. DOE's Building Technologies Office (BTO) establishes and updates notices and rules related to commercial and residential buildings.

The following notices and rules were announced by DOE, FEMP, and BTO through the Federal Register, as defined by the Administrative Procedure Act and appropriate enabling legislation. For more information about federal, state, commercial, and residential building regulations and rulemakings, see BTO's Building Energy Codes Program website.
