On June 9, 2015, the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) issued a request for proposal (RFP) for the procurement of electricity produced by solar photovoltaic arrays to be constructed by the selected bidder that will bring approximately 3 megawatts of solar energy across 18 federal buildings in Washington, D.C. The RFP is part of the Capital Solar Challenge, which was launched by the White House in April 2014 and directs federal agencies and military installations to identify opportunities to deploy solar renewable energy at federal locations across the National Capital Region.

The White House Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ), GSA National Capital Region, and the U.S. Department of Energy's Federal Energy Management Program (FEMP) are partnering to assist agencies in implementing the initiative. With funding provided by FEMP, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory is supporting the effort through on-site technical feasibility assessments, RFP development, and other technical and procurement assistance.

A pre-proposal conference will be hosted by GSA on June 26, 2015, and proposals are due on August 18, 2015. For more information about this effort and other White House highlights from GreenGov, read the full CEQ fact sheet and review the solicitation information on FedBizOpps for other important RFP deadlines.

UPDATE: GSA has put this solicitation on temporary hold pending a procurement strategy review. The pre-proposal conference and other dates will be rescheduled after the review is complete.
