Lead Performer: National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) – Golden, CO
FY16 DOE Funding: $100,000
Project Term: October 1, 2012 – December 31, 2016
Funding Type: Direct Lab Funding

PROJECT OBJECTIVE

This project is deploying Small Business Administration (SBA) resources developed by NREL. NREL will work to increase the number of SBA-originated loans for energy efficiency projects by deploying dedicated resources for borrowers and lenders through SBA’s strategic deployment partners. NREL has developed marketing and educational materials for SBA lenders and borrowers to assist with integrating energy efficiency into the SBA loan program. NREL has also outlined a simple process for borrowers to find resources and tools to aid in decisions around energy efficiency solutions.

PROJECT IMPACT

Initial deployment efforts in FY15 have shown success with high adoption rates of the two approaches developed by NREL. Outcomes of these deployment efforts highlighted a need for materials like the fact sheets that provide borrowers and lenders with information allowing them to make better energy efficiency decisions and promote loans for energy efficiency. SBA resources also assist SBA lenders and SBA partners; these partners use this information to enhance their brand image and secure greater market share in their field.

Lenders promoting the fact sheets have seen up to twice as many loans through SBA’s 504 loan program include energy efficiency and renewable energy in the past year.  SBA resources also assist SBA lenders and SBA partners; these partners use this information to enhance their brand image and secure greater market share in their field.
