PROJECT OBJECTIVE

Ecology Action will leverage its existing network of contractors to use low-cost, high-impact tools to analyze and implement deep energy retrofits and financing options that are appropriate to small buildings. The SMART Scale program will develop a platform to be used by administrators of small and medium sized building energy efficiency programs that will achieve an average of 20% energy savings per building. The project will achieve these savings by offering a comprehensive set of measures, integrated financing tools and expedited project M&V via a contractor-driven delivery model. SMART Scale will be built upon Ecology Action’s award-winning Direct Install 2.0 model, which routinely achieves between 2 and 4.7 times greater energy savings per business compared to average direct install methods.

PROJECT IMPACT

The project will reach 1,800 buildings, retrofit 600 small buildings, and create 40 jobs over seven building types (retail, office, food store, healthcare, education, warehouse, lodging), enhance Ecology Action’s Direct Install Tool to produce 20% energy savings for contractors to use in assessing small buildings. Additionally, project activities are being delivered through Ecology Action’s ongoing partnership with the Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD). Field implementations are underway and are on track to accomplish the goal of completing at 600 deep energy retrofits.
