Fiscal Year 2022 EERE Budget Request

The Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) invests in research and development as part of the Department of Energy’s (DOE) broad portfolio approach to addressing our nation’s energy and environmental challenges. EERE works closely with the national laboratories and with many of America's best innovators and businesses to support high-impact, early-stage applied R&D activities, relying upon the private sector to fund later-stage research, development, and commercialization of energy technologies in sustainable transportation, renewable power, and energy efficiency. EERE's investment portfolio is strongly positioned to enable American energy independence and domestic job-growth in the near to mid-term, while maintaining proper stewardship of taxpayer dollars. The FY 2021 Budget Request maintains America’s leadership in transformative science and emerging energy technologies in sustainable transportation, renewable power, and energy efficiency. This request focuses on interdisciplinary research that crosscuts individual technology areas to capitalize on synergies and maximize impact.
