The paper and poster presentation "Bioenergy KDF: Enabling Spatiotemporal Data Synthesis and Research Collaboration" was awarded second place for best paper at the ACM SIGSPATIAL International Conference on Advances in Geographic Information Systems, held November 4–7 in Dallas, Texas. It was selected out of a group of more than 50 papers with wide-ranging topics in the field of geospatial information systems. The paper explains how the Bioenergy Knowledge Discovery Framework (KDF) is bringing together the bioenergy community through Web-based tools, and was presented by Bioenergy KDF team members from Oak Ridge National Laboratory.

The Bioenergy KDF is an online collaboration and geospatial analysis tool managed by the Bioenergy Technologies Office and supported by Oak Ridge National Laboratory. It allows researchers, policymakers, and private industry to explore and engage the latest bioenergy research. In 2014, the Bioenergy KDF released new tools, including the Legislative Library, Biomass Scenario Model Tool, and DOE-Funded Content Page.

This award is significant as it recognizes the Bioenergy KDF for not only its research merit to bioenergy stakeholders, but also for its technical capabilities as a Web-based architecture.
