Deputy Assistant Secretary for Energy Efficiency Honored at Sammie Awards

The Deputy Assistant Secretary for Energy Efficiency in the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE), Dr. Kathleen Hogan, was recently awarded the 2016 Samuel J. Heyman Service to America Medal for Career Achievement for her vast achievements within the Department of Energy, including developing and expanding “a series of pivotal national energy efficiency initiatives that have greatly reduced greenhouse gas emissions and saved American consumers and businesses billions of dollars.” Learn more about Hogan’s contributions to EERE and her career achievement award.

DOE Invests $1.2 Million to Advance National Lab Partnerships with Manufacturing Leaders

This week the Energy Department announced the selections for the second cohort of the Technologist in Residence (TIR) Program. Three national laboratories will receive nearly $1.2 million to advance collaborative research and development focused on improving the manufacturing processes of industry partners. The program partners a senior technologist from a national laboratory with an industry professional from a clean energy manufacturing company or consortium of companies.

DEADLINE TODAY: REMADE in America Institute Full Application Submission – September 28

Full application submissions for the Clean Energy Manufacturing Innovation Institute for Reducing EMbodied-energy And Decreasing Emissions (REMADE) in Materials Manufacturing funding opportunity are due September 28 at 5:00 PM EST.

The Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE), within the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), invests in cutting-edge research, development, and demonstration activities focused on sustainable transportation, renewable power, and energy efficiency. The estimated period of performance for the award will be 5 years with the goal of the Institute to be self-sustaining by the end of the project period.

Innovation Crossroads Launches to Develop the Next Generation of Clean Energy Entrepreneurs

Last week, the Department of Energy’s (DOE’s) Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) launched a new Lab-Embedded Entrepreneurship Program (LEEP) program called Innovation Crossroads. Up to five entrepreneurs will receive a fellowship that covers living costs, benefits and a travel stipend for up to two years, plus up to $350,000 to use on collaborative research and development at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) to advance their energy technology ideas. Applications will open in early October.
