DEADLINE: Chain Reaction Innovations First Startup Cohort– August 12

Applications for the first Chain Reaction Innovation cohort are due on August 12, 2016 at 5:00 PM CT.

Argonne National Laboratory has opened a new innovation incubator called Chain Reaction Innovations (CRI), which is a new two-year program for innovators focused on energy and science technologies. CRI will give teams of innovators a runway to develop and scale their technologies while being supported through fellowship funding that covers salary, benefits, and use of laboratory equipment and office space. Through a partnership with mentor organizations, CRI participants will get assistance developing business strategies, conducting market research, and finding long-term financing and potential commercial partners.

DEADLINE: Modular Chemical Process Intensification Institute for Clean Energy Manufacturing Full Application Submission – August 17

Full application submissions for the Modular Chemical Process Intensification Institute for Clean Energy Manufacturing funding opportunity are due on August 17 at 5:00 PM EST.

With approximately $70 million in funding, this public-private partnership will be the fourth Energy Department sponsored facility as part of the National Network of Manufacturing Innovation Institutes and presents significant opportunities to advance technologies to improve energy productivity, increase energy efficiency, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions in energy-related manufacturing industries. The estimated period of performance for the award will be approximately 5 years.

AMO’s Kelly Visconti Joins Ribbon Cutting of $50 million Indiana Manufacturing Institute

On July 26, more than 300 people and about 20 Indiana composites companies came together at the Purdue Research Park of West Lafayette, Indiana for a ceremonial ribbon-cutting event for the new Indiana Manufacturing Institute. Kelly Visconti, the AMO technology manager for IACMI, helped cut the ribbon for the new state-of-the-art facility. The $50 million facility will house the Center for Composites Manufacturing and Simulation, which is part of the Institute for Advanced Composites Manufacturing Innovation (IACMI).

AMO Provides Technical Assistance to First Ever CHP Project at a U.S. Army Installation

On July 19, the U.S. Army debuted a new Combined Heat and Power (CHP) plant at Aberdeen Proving Ground in Aberdeen, Maryland. Dr. Kathleen Hogan, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Energy Efficiency in the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, gave remarks and helped with the ceremonial cutting of the chains to open the plant. This new CHP plant is the first of its kind on an army installation, and represents an innovative public-private partnership between the U.S. Army Materiel Command, U.S. Army Installation Management Command, Baltimore Gas and Electric, and Johnson Controls. The Advanced Manufacturing Office (AMO) provided technical assistance on several levels throughout the project’s development.
