DEADLINE: REMADE in America Institute Concept Papers Due – July 28

The Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) announced, on behalf of the Advanced Manufacturing Office (AMO), a Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) entitled “Clean Energy Manufacturing Innovation Institute for Reducing EMbodied-energy And Decreasing Emissions (REMADE) in Materials Manufacturing”. Concept papers are due July 28, 2016.

Deputy Assistant Secretary of Energy Efficiency Attended Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony at U.S. Army Garrison Aberdeen Proving Ground

On Tuesday, July 19 Dr. Kathleen Hogan, the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Energy Efficiency within the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, assisted in the launch of a new Combined Heat and Power (CHP) project, which is a collaborative effort between the U.S. Army and Department of Energy’s Federal Energy Management Program (FEMP) and the Advanced Manufacturing Office’s CHP Deployment Program, at the U.S. Army Garrison Aberdeen Proving Ground in Aberdeen, Maryland.

This CHP project will generate 50 percent of the electricity requirements for Aberdeen Proving Ground, while reducing greenhouse gas emissions by over 22,000 tons of CO2 per year. This project will also serve as a model for expanding the use of alternative energy technologies with the U.S. Army in pursuit of environmentally responsible energy management.

Chain Reaction Innovations Opens Call for First Startup Cohort of Energy Innovators

Chain Reaction Innovations (CRI), the newest addition to the Department of Energy’s (DOE) Lab-Embedded Entrepreneurship Programs (LEEP), which are sponsored by the Advanced Manufacturing Office (AMO) and managed in collaboration with the Technology-to-Market office are now accepting applications for the inaugural national cohort of science and energy innovators.

CRI provides financial security and technical support for up to two years for selected entrepreneurs. This includes up to $350,000 to use on R&D efforts at Argonne National Laboratory and up to $100,000 per year in a fellowship covering living costs, benefits, and a travel stipend.

AMO Peer Review Presentations – Now Live

The Advanced Manufacturing Office (AMO) conducted a review of its technology research, development, and demonstration (RD&D) activities in Rosslyn, VA, on June 14-15, 2016. The meeting was open to the public. Leading technology experts from the industrial, academic, and government sectors reviewed AMO's Program and provided their view on its effectiveness and impact. DOE Launches Lab Call to Develop Manufacturing Training

The Energy Department is accepting applications from its National Labs to develop manufacturing training for cleantech entrepreneurs. The goal of the training is to prepare clean energy hardware entrepreneurs for manufacturing at scale by giving them the information and tools required to make manufacturing-related decisions, assess product design and manufacturing readiness, and productively engage with experts. The DOE National Laboratories are eligible to apply, while interested, non-lab, parties are encouraged to reach out to National Laboratories directly or to CleanEnergyManufacturing@EE.doe.gov to be connected. The application deadline is July 26, 2016 at 5:00 PM EST.
