AMO Launches Installation Database on Newly Released Combined Heat and Power Systems

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announces the release of the 2016 Combined Heat and Power (CHP) Installation Database, which includes data as of December 31, 2015. The DOE database of CHP installations provides information about CHP systems currently operating in the United States including locations, organizations served, and facility characteristics. Features include search and filter options and the ability to download a list of operating CHP systems and national-level summary tables. Visit the DOE CHP installation website to see newly released 2016 data on CHP systems operating in the U.S. – where they are, who they are serving, and facility characteristics that may be similar to yours. In total, there are 81 GW of CHP installed at over 4,300 sites around the country.  CHP systems save the U.S. 1.8 Quads of fuel each year, avoiding 241 million metric tons of CO2 emissions annually.

Global Wind Day 2016 – AMO’s Role in Applying 3D Printing to Wind Blade Mold Manufacturing – June 15

Global Wind Day is a worldwide event that occurs annually on June 15 and is dedicated to discovering the possibilities wind holds to reshape our energy systems. This day provides an opportunity for the Advanced Manufacturing Office to highlight work we’re doing in partnership with the Wind and Water Power Technologies Office with support from DOE’s Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Sandia National Laboratory, and corporate partner, TPI Composites to manufacture wind turbine blade molds using additive manufacturing, more commonly known as 3D printing.

In honor of Global Wind Day, read our blog here to learn more about our 3D printing project.

AMO to Participate in Second Annual National Maker Faire – June 18-19

The Advanced Manufacturing Office will display a 3D printed wind blade mold, which is part of a joint effort with the Wind and Water Power Technologies Office, at the second annual National Maker Faire, from June 18-19 at the University of the District of Columbia. The National Maker Faire is a free, family friendly event that brings together companies, foundations, agencies, schools, and non-profits to expand the resources available for young makers and maker entrepreneurs, and foster the development of advanced manufacturing in the United States. This event is the start of Week of Making (June 17-23), a continuation of the President’s Nation of Makers initiative launched in June 2014, when President Obama hosted the first-ever White House Maker Faire and issued a call to action that “every company, every college, every community, every citizen joins us as we lift up makers and builders and doers across the country.”
