Oak Ridge National Laboratory Sponsored Robotics Team Wins First Place in FIRST Smoky Mountain Regional Competition

Fifty high school teams from across the United States recently competed in the Smoky Mountain regional tournament, held March 27-29 in Knoxville. The FIRST Robotics team of Hardin Valley Academy (HVA), located in Knoxville, Tennessee, will now compete against 600 teams at the 2016 FIRST Robotics Championship in St. Louis, Missouri. The HVA team named “RoHAWKtics” is just one of the teams mentored by the DOE’s Manufacturing Demonstration Facility, established at Oak Ridge National Laboratory.

Composites One and the Institute for Advanced Composites Manufacturing Innovation Led Two-Day Training Session on Advanced Composites Processes and Materials

Over 150 students, academics, technicians and entrepreneurs from 23 states attended a two-day training session on advanced composites processes and materials and witnessed live demos of light resin transfer molding, prepreg and high temperature compression molding, and presentations on vacuum fusions, and designing with carbon fiber. Attendees gained knowledge in Reusable Bag Molding, heard an actual customer case history from Scout Boats, and toured the Oak Ridge National Laboratory Carbon Fiber Technology Facility.
