Department of Energy (DOE) Announces $25 Million to Advance Next Generation of Electric Machines for Enabling Technologies

The DOE with support of the Advanced Manufacturing Office (AMO) has announced up to $25 million in funding to help advance technologies for energy efficient electric machines through applied research and development. The DOE plans to choose eight to twelve projects through this funding opportunity and targets the development of key technologies that will allow for further efficiency enhancements. This funding opportunity is also part of the DOE’s Clean Energy Manufacturing Initiative.

AMO Director, Dr. Mark Johnson, Delivered A Presentation at American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Congressional Briefing

AMO Director, Dr. Mark Johnson, spoke about energy efficiency in manufacturing and how it aligns with EERE’s mission at the ASME sponsored Congressional Briefing on Advanced Manufacturing held on February 11. His presentation also highlighted the value in circulating knowledge of energy technologies and how they translate from discovery to domestic manufacturing and jobs through the U.S. DOE’s National Network for Manufacturing Innovation (NNMI) institutes, consortia and R&D projects.

AMO Sponsors Energy Materials Network (EMN) CaloriCoolTM Consortium

On February 24, 2016, the DOE announced the launch of its Energy Materials Network (EMN), a new National Laboratory-led initiative that will give American entrepreneurs and manufacturers a leg up in the global race for clean energy. As part of this network, the Advanced Manufacturing Office (AMO) is proud to sponsor the CaloriCoolTM consortium, led by Ames Laboratory, which will focus on caloric materials and advanced refrigeration technology. Improving Compressed Air System Performance Sourcebook - Third Edition Now Available Online

The Third Edition of the Improving Compressed Air System Performance Sourcebook is now available on AMO’s publications webpage. AMO's Compressed Air Sourcebook has been recently revised introducing industry to compressed air systems, performance opportunities and where they can find help on optimizing these important industrial systems. Over the years AMO has worked with the Compressed Air Challenge (CAC) in its development. CAC brings together the combined talents of compressed air system auditors, trade associations, equipment manufacturers and distributors, utilities, and government agencies in a collaborative effort to improve the performance of industrial compressed air systems.

Advanced Polymer Monitoring Technologies, Inc. (APMT) Installs Automatic Continuous Online Monitoring of Polymer Reactions (ACOMP) System in Polymer Production Facility

Since 2014, APMT Inc.’s automatic continuous online monitoring of polymer reactions product has been operating in a polymer plant and has achieved over 97 percent system availability. For 18 months the ACOMP system has been operational in an industrial manufacturing environment and the work has been supported partly by the DOE’s Advanced Manufacturing Office.
