Energy Department Awards $6 Million to Universities in TN and VA to Advance Master’s and Doctoral Training in Power Electronics

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) today announced the two universities selected to receive nearly $6 million to establish one or more graduate-level training programs for engineers in power electronics. This effort is part of the Obama Administration’s commitment to accelerating American manufacturing and developing science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education programs that support the next generation of engineers and manufacturers.

AMO Visited Sites in the Midwest for Manufacturing Day 2015

Manufacturing DaySM is a celebration of modern manufacturing meant to inspire the next generation of manufacturers. This year’s event, held on October 2, 2015, was supported by more than 2000 manufacturers across the US. The Energy Department’s Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) supported Manufacturing Day with visits to sites in the Midwest. Dr. Mark Johnson, Director of EERE’s Advanced Manufacturing Office, visited Merrillville, Indiana, where he moderated a panel at the 2015 Northwest Indiana Manufacturing Summit hosted by U.S. Congressman Pete Visclosky.

AMO Process Intensification Workshop – Presentations Now Available

The Advanced Manufacturing Office (AMO) held a 2-day Process Intensification workshop in Old Town Alexandria, VA on September 29-30, 2015. The workshop set to promote the exchange of information between research laboratories, industry, academia and government agencies. This information included how to establish smaller and simpler equipment in manufacturing processes in addition to determining how the Federal Government could best engage with industry to support such technologies.
