The Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Independent Enterprise Assessment (IEA) National Training Center (NTC) held the first Active Shooter Training Workshop (ASTW) June 3–5, 2014. The training workshop was based on real-world threats and issues and included a variety of guest lecturers and hands-on practical exercises. Participants utilized both live fire and engagement simulation system weaponry. The exercises were led by NTC instructors at the NTC’s Live Fire Range and Integrated Safety and Security Training and Evaluation Complex (ISSTEC).
The workshop was well attended by protective force (PF) training instructors and PF training Managers from across the DOE complex, USAF Security Police, and local law enforcement agencies. More than 70 attendees participated in or observed the live exercises.
The feedback from both the participants and observers was extremely positive. The NTC provided the participants and observers with lesson plans for the live fire and practical exercises so DOE sites could continue to share the training provided at the ASTW.
