One of the greatest privileges I have had in my professional career is being a part of a world class team of professionals at the Energy Department. At the Department, we create a climate of acceptance and inclusion that supports our broad spectrum of employees working to address America’s energy, environmental and nuclear challenges through transformative science and technology solutions.
This month is Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) PRIDE month where one of the great pillars of diversity is celebrated and embraced. Under the leadership of Secretary Moniz, Department personnel are ensuring the LGBT community is treated as equal and included members of the workplace and in our society. Recent decisions by the United States Supreme Court, United States Congress and the White House have helped level the playing field and extend critical benefits to all Federal employees.
As the Justice Department and the Office of Personnel Management begin implementing these Supreme Court decisions, the Department looks forward to extending these benefits in due time. For more, check out Attorney General Holder’s statement on the United States v. Windsor Supreme Court case.
“When all Americans are treated as equal, no matter who they are or whom they love, we are all more free,” said President Obama. “We’re all more free when every American is treated equally under the law -- no matter who they are or whom they love.”
Due to the great leadership of Secretary Moniz, Deputy Secretary Poneman and Former Secretary Chu, the Department is able to attract some of the country’s premier professionals. We value and embrace the broad spectrum of diversity that helps make our country meet its growing energy needs.
Today and every day the Department celebrates its commitment to being a positive role model of equal opportunity, diversity and inclusion. Happy Pride 365 days a year!
