HOUSTON - The U.S. Interior Secretary Ken Salazar and U.S. Energy Secretary Steven Chu are scheduled to meet with scientists and engineers from both industry and the federal government at the BP Command Center in Houston. Media availability will be held immediately following the meeting.
On May 7, 2010, Secretary Salazar dispatched Dr. Marcia McNutt, the director of the U.S. Geological Survey, to the BP Command Center in Houston to help coordinate the joint efforts of federal scientists who are working with BP engineers to address several technological challenges and approaches to securing the damaged well head, stopping the leak and minimizing impacts from the spill. Yesterday, President Obama asked Secretary Chu to lead a team of top administration officials and government scientists to Houston for an extensive dialogue with BP officials to continue to aggressively pursue potential solutions.
