WASHINGTON – Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz will host several meetings on the Quadrennial Energy Review (QER) and visit the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant in early August.
On Friday, August 8, the Secretary will join other federal and local officials, including Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx for two public meetings to receive public input on the QER, an administration-wide effort to make recommendations regarding key infrastructure needed for transmission, storage and distribution of energy. In Chicago, the discussion will focus on rail, truck and barge transportation. In Bismarck, ND, the meeting will focus on infrastructure constraints; and finally, on Monday, in Santa Fe, Secretary Moniz will be joined by Interior Secretary Sally Jewell for a meeting that will focus on state, local, and tribal issues.
Following the QER meetings, Secretary Moniz will tour Dakota Gasification in Beulah, ND, with North Dakota Senators Heidi Heitkamp and John Hoeven.
Secretary Moniz will host a third QER meeting in Santa Fe, NM, on Monday, August 11, before visiting the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant in Carlsbad, NM, on Tuesday, August 12.
