WASHINGTON, DC - Secretary of Energy Samuel W. Bodman today released the following statement regarding House passage of the Energy Policy Act of 2005:
"Ensuring America's future energy security has been a priority for President Bush since his early days in office, and I commend the House of Representatives, particularly Chairman Barton and Ranking Member Dingell, for their efforts on this broad-based legislation that helps achieve that goal. Because of the hard work and thoughtful approach that went into crafting this bipartisan legislation, the House has passed a bill that will reduce energy demand, increase energy supplies, and update our aging energy infrastructure by leveraging technology and innovation to meet America's energy needs.
"At the same time, this legislation helps protect our environment by supporting the development and deployment of renewable energy sources like wind and solar power, encouraging the construction of clean, safe, nuclear power plants and promoting research and development efforts to transform that way we produce and use energy in the future. Today's action is a victory for the American people."
