Energy Department to Host Event With 2011 Physics Nobel Laureate Saul Perlmutter

Washington, D.C. – The Department of Energy (DOE) will host an event Friday, January 13, with 2011 Physics Nobel Laureate Saul Perlmutter.  Dr. Perlmutter, a physicist at the Department’s Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and a professor of physics at the University of California at Berkeley, won the 2011 Nobel Prize in Physics “for the discovery of the accelerating expansion of the Universe through observations of distant supernovae.”  DOE’s Office of Science has supported Dr. Perlmutter’s research at Berkeley Lab since 1983. 

After an introduction from Secretary of Energy Steven Chu, Dr. Perlmutter will deliver a presentation entitled "Supernovae, Dark Energy and the Accelerating Universe:  How DOE Helped to Win (yet another) Nobel Prize."  Dr. Perlmutter will be available to media following his open press presentation.
