Between now and April, thousands of middle and high schools students around the country will compete in 109 regional science fair bowls . The winners of each will go on to compete at the National Science Bowl in Washington, DC, in May 2011.

Above are some of our very first 2011 regional winners -- the team from Albuquerque Academy in Albuquerque, NM.

The other four winning teams so far include: LISA's Academy in Little Rock, AR,  Montgomery Blair High School in Silver Spring, MD,  Sycamore School in Indianapolis, IN, and Wayzata High School in Plymouth, MN.

Mikayla Nelson, who appeared at the State of the Union this week, helped lead her Billings, Montana, middle school team to a first place win last year.

We'll be following along with all the regional competitions anxious to see who makes it the national bowl in May.

If you'd like more information about this year's events, visit the National Science Bowl website.
